    Finally ...... Some Real Umpires

I've posted about the bad ones so it seems only fair I give some public props to some good ones. Don't recall their names but the two dudes who worked the Sunday, August 10, 9:00 am game at Cox are officially my "best umpires" we have had all season, by a long shot. Just when I was thinking there were not gonna be any best umpires period this year, just various levels of weak to bad.

They didn't waste any time getting the game going, were clear with their calls, new the rules, and treated us all like people.

"Good job" to them, whoever they are.

We had a great set at our game Saturday in Kent, Cascade Dodgers vs Giants. good zone, consistant, one or 2 questions came up and they responded to them like umpires are supposed to. Good job guys.

Overall this year we've had some nasty ones, but we've also had some great ones. Compared to what some other leagues get for umps, I think we do pretty good.

NBUA has some very good umpires, and plenty of consistent umpires...they have to, or they would get hell from the High Schools, from the WIAA, etc.  The problem stems more from the fact that they seem to be scheduling umpires based on the "skill level" of the division they are umpiring at...rec/int divisions get lower ranked umpires compared to the competitive divisions.  I know this is true in basketball officiating (I officiate for hte PNBOA), and they have the same assignor...

I don't really mind if they want to use the lower PSSBL divisions as "training" for their umpires, but they should always put a veteran umpire with those lesser skilled folks, and if they're going to use it as training, then the veteran umpire should be willing to step in and "fix" blatantly bad calls (like the guy getting hit by a pitch on ball 4 while a runner was stealing, and the umpire allowed the runner to stay at his newly swiped base).

Thanks for admitting the ump screwed that call against us Matt! lol

You don't know how many times this season I have wanted to ask an umpire to show me a rule from there rule book. I doubt many even have one.

can't help it if the guy sucks.  and we'd been screwed by bad umpires making horrendous calls so many times over the course of the season that I wasn't going to complain too much about one finally going our way.  Plus, in the end it didn't really matter, since the next guy singled to right center, and i'd have scored from second just as easily. =)
